I'm dedicating this ride (my first ever century) to my brother Kim Nutter who passed away on 11/15/04 of Leukemia. Kim was an elite long distance runner and a veteren of the Iraq war. Having retired from the Marine Corp after 28 years. I still believe he became ill from the smoke of the oil fires in the early 90's. Never been sick, never hospitalized. He was my only sibling and with 7 years difference in our age we did not spend much time together growing up. I did have the opportunity to run with him in several races but was never close to catching him. I'm a sprinter so long distance was a stretch. Receiving free entry into this race would be a gift and only inspire me more to finish strong!

Last year was my first TdT. Six months earlier is when I started riding. I exceeded my goal to be under 6 hours on my 23# Mercier. Since then I've purchased a Felt F3, joined a racing team entering several races in masters 55 category, and now I stay at the front of the early (old man's) Shootout. To reach my goal this year I have to shave 48 min 30 sec. Several have encouraged me saying I can do it. Lord willing, that's what I'm going to do.

After being paralyzed in a near fatal car accident and making a comeback and stronger then ever. I am always looking to head to new events to both challenge myself as well as boost my exposure to try and help use my story to motivate others.

This will be my first ever century ride and my hopes are to complete it with all my extremities. I've conquered Mt. Lemmon, I've chugged around Pistol Hill and I've spun around Saguaro National Monument but I have yet to orbit around Tucson. With your gift and the support of my family we'll ALL finish the 109 in record style!

what a way to spend the Thanksgiving time-escape the cold riding of Chicago and ride the gloorious Tour de Tuscon roads and visit my brother and his family who live there-and throw in a Mt Lemmon climb just for good measure

Did I win yet?

I rode eTdT last year, and managed to break the 5-hour barrier by just 45 seconds. One of the hardest efforts I've ever done. It was made all the more hard because I am a very large rider: clydesdale status (6'3", 255 lbs). I'd like to go back this year and improve on my finish. Getting the chance to start with the lead riders, instead of having to chase, should allow me to do that. With a wife and 5 kids at home, finances are always tight. Winning an entry would alleviate $100 from the ~$300 trip (from Los Angeles).

My wife has asked me "whats more important, our kids participating in sports or me riding in El Tour De Tucson?" Of course I care more for the kids then myself, so I was going to sit out this race. However, with your generous offer I can put myself through 108 miles of November Tucson road riding bliss.

The old saying "the older I get, the better I WAS" couldn't be more applicable. Getting a free entry would eliminate one more excuse NOT to ride. I should ride, Help me (I'm pathetic!).

Riding El Tour would make it 11 months in a row for riding at least one century! That would qualify me for the UMCA Year-Rounder award. See www.ultracycling.com
